The Alternative Formats and Clear Print Guidelines: Information is essential to all of us, to help us to make choices and to live our lives independently. By law all organisations now need to provide information in a way that everyone can read. A 'Clear Print' document will find a wider audience including many with sight problems. This type of document forms the basis for providing readers with a format of their choice. Use for correspondence, books, magazines, flyers, forms, menus and items held in the hand.

The Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2005 requires all service providers educators and employers to make 'reasonable adjustments' to meet the needs of all disabled people. Case law has established that adopting the "Clear Print Guidelines" meets the basic requirements of the Act in respect of some people with poor vision or sight impairments. Any document which is to be published should be reproducible in different fonts and sizes to meet individual needs.

This Visual Awareness factsheet is published in 14 Arial with a Table of Contents which can be changed to any font size and type by using the Word facilities Insert/reference/Index and Tables/ToC/ and modify to list style 'rnib hed 1' alone.
