Lottery boost for deaf project
A Project to help deaf and blind people in Newcastle has received a £189,000
Lotto boost.
Newcastle City Coun-cil, the Healthy City Pro-ject and Deaflink teamed up to
secure the money, which will go towards helping the deaf and hard-of-hearing
access - employment, education health, leisure and social opportunities.
The cash will provide one full-time worker, administration support and general
running costs over three years.
Coon John O'Shea, cabinet member for health and social care said the money would
improve the valuable service.
"People who are deaf, blind or hard of hearing can sometimes find it dif-ficult
to access all the services that are avail-able to them."
Ian Graham, acting chairperson for Newcas-tle Deaflink, said: "Now hopefully
we can see an improvement in the lives of deaf, deaf-blind and hard-of-hearing
people."
