Cinema Audio Description is available in Newcastle

The ODEON cinema in the Gate, Newgate Street Newcastle is equipped to show movies with audio description in 4 of their 12 screens.

This is what to do:

  1. Telephone Freephone Odeon to tell you which films are audio described at all Odeon's participating cinemas. The number is 0800 085 4857.
  2. and/or Email Charlie at Newcastle Odeon for a regular update about movies with AD
  3. Telephone the Odeon Newcastle booking office direct on 0191 230 4450 (or 0191 230 4435 for management) to ask if the movie you wish to see is being shown in one of the four auditoriums fitted for AD, if all OK then tell them the time you expect to be there and ask if they can make sure the AD disk is running. They have 40 headsets and like to know demand in advance.
  4. The Odeon are, regularly, showing AD movies together with subtitles every Tuesday but they will general run the AD at other times given enough warning.
  5. Note that the audio description disks may not arrive for the first two or three days the movie is shown - you may have to wait a day to two.
  6. Let RNIB know your experiences - good or bad.
  7. AD on a film means that there is a slight chance that when it comes out on video the DVD version will include the AD track in the special features.
