You can have a free eye test every 6 months.
This is important as once you have been abandoned by your consultant you must get somebody to look in your eyes on a regular basis.
Most opticians also sell a limited range of visual aids but the specialised aids are most conveniently purchased from an authorised optician (Robson & Co - 0191 232 1631) or a regular stockist, contact the manufacturer or agent to get an address. Your local societywill have some catalogues and may also have some samples. Remember NEVER buy any low vision aid without first trying it out in as many situations as possible.
